Training courses on international standardization provided by JSA

JSA has held “Training courses on international standardization” commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry since 2007. These courses have consisted of “Introductory course for ISO/IEC international standardization”, “Training course for developing international standards”, and “Leadership training course in international standardization”.

In “Introductory course for ISO/IEC international standardization”, new participants in international standardization has been able to learn basic knowledge such as importance and variety of international standards, how to develop standards and obtain related documents. “Training course for developing international standards” has dealt with process of drafting international standards based on technical knowledge on developing draft ISO/IEC standards, it has contained practical training to draft standards applying standards templates. “Leadership training course in international standardization” has aimed to improve one’s skill to participate in international meeting, especially to manage whole international meeting and make ones position included in international standard, by roll- play practice of a fictional international meeting led by a convenor in English. In addition to these courses, on-demand “Training course for developing international standards”, and “Leadership training course in international standardization” have been held for national mirror committees since 2010. Over 1600 people have attended these trainings for the four years. Lecturers have studied hard continually and contents of textbook have been improved during this period. We hope provided trainings have contributed to achieve strategic target for international standardization in Japan set in November 2006.

Currently, JSA is planning to renew these trainings, and some of these will be provided only by JSA as new courses for the next fiscal year, after commission by METI will be ended. We will try to make use of our past experience to develop new scheme in order to meet stakeholder’s needs.
