The 10th Northeast Asia Standards Cooperation Forum

The 10th Northeast Asia Standards Cooperation Forum was held from June 22 to 24. The Forum has been held since 2002 for the objective of building international cooperation among the three Northeast Asian countries i.e. Japan, China and Korea in standardization to strengthen their influence in ISO/IEC. The latest forum hosted by Korea was attended by 123 consisting of representatives of the 3 governments, as well as the standardization bodies and experts of the 3 countries (42 from Japan; 21 from China; and 60 from Korea).

In the afternoon of June 22, the representatives of each government gave their opening speeches and updates on their respective standardization activities, current policies, etc.

In the morning of the following day, June 23, the national standardization bodies gave summary reports on the progress made on the collaboration projects and gave presentations on the status of 22 ongoing projects. Later, representatives of CJK-SITE (China, Japan, Korea-Standards cooperation on Information Technology and Electronics) that met at the same venue on June 21 proposed the development of a scheme for greater cooperation with the Northeast Asia Standards Cooperation Forum. Additionally, 9 new cooperation proposals were presented — 4 from Japan, 2 from China and 3 from Korea (of these, 3 were approved, and decision on one proposal was put on pending).

In the afternoon of the same day, the following 7 working groups met on ongoing and new collaboration projects and engaged in active discussions.

On June 24, the resolutions on the themes and topics discussed on the previous day were developed and confirmed. The Forum closed in success with the approval of the “Resolutions of the 10th Northeast Asia Standards Cooperation Forum 22-24 June, 2011, Busan, Korea”.

The 11th Northeast Asia Standards Cooperation Forum is scheduled to be held in China on either May or August of 2012.
