National Meeting on Standardization and Quality Management 2010
Each year, the Japanese Standards Association convenes standardization and quality control promotion organizations, as well as business entrepreneurs, managers and engineers from around Japan, for the "National Meeting on Standardization and Quality Management" to foster mutual help and betterment from lectures and presentations.
Again this year, the "National Meeting on Standardization and Quality Management 2010" was held on October 18 and 19 at the Toshi Center Hotel in Tokyo.
The theme for this year was "Toward Sustainable Development in the Global Society: From Adapting to Change to Innovating."
On October 18, the meeting opened with the welcome address by Mr. Masami Tanaka, president of JSA, followed by Special Lecture I emceed by Mr. Hiroshi Osada, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The lecture featured Mr. Tsuyoshi Kikukawa, president of Olympus Corporation, who spoke on "Quality Management that Increases Corporate Value." In subsequent Special Lecture II, Mr. Yoshio Ishida, vice chairman of East Japan Railway Company, gave a presentation on "International Standardization in the Area of Railway."
On October 19, 20 sessions were held on a wide range of topics, chiefly those of great interest, such as smart grid, latest developments in project management, case studies on corporate action on safety and security, electric vehicles, Japan's international standardization strategy, environmental management, R-map, risk management, REACH, coaching, cross-cultural communication, and business strategy focused on the global market.
Once again, the meet drew more than 1,100 participants on the two days.
JSA believes that the meeting has become a milestone in addressing the many issues concerning the business environment in Japan and the directions of business in the future and has achieved its purpose as the venue for gaining knowledge and dynamic energy that leads to organization improvement. The meeting has also earned approbation from its participants, who have reported that the lectures are backed by a large number of case studies and very informative, that they hope to apply some of the ideas in their companies, that they gained greater understanding through the Q&A sessions, etc.
In addition to the National Meeting, JSA holds Local Meetings on Standardization and Quality Management 2010 in the 8 regional blocs of Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chubu, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa.
For "National Meeting on Standardization and Quality Management 2011" to be held next year, we plan to do our utmost in its preparations in order to promote greater participation.
